Biography

Mr Simone Barbaresi is Deputy Director for Infrastructure at Bangor University's IT Department responsible for servers, desktops, networks, storage, data centres and network services. Simone has worked in the system infrastructure IT industry for over twenty years. The last ten years has seen him managing various high profile projects within Bangor University, the most recent of these include: Active Directory, Office365, Windows 7, Data Centre Refurbishment, DAS to SAN, IT Infrastructure Specification. Simone gained a BSc in Computer Science from Staffordshire University in 1992 which has proven a valuable asset in his current profession

Estates and IT Working Together in Harmony

The development of a forty million pounds state of the art building is in many respects similar to a house extension; building contractors will select the easy, most convenient path. If this sounds familiar then this talk may be of interest and relevance because, with the help of real-life examples, it details how Bangor University went from a chaotic unstructured and mixed environment to a standard installation model, this includes data rooms, wifi, open access rooms, CCTV, BMS, fibre, copper, etc. This was done by developing the IT Specification Document which contractors must adhere to. If they don’t they will not be connected to the network
